It’s all happening!

New VPSSpeed LogoOk, its been a while since we posted any news (sorry about that — you’ll see why in a second!). Basically  we’ve been hard at work preparing for the release of speedCP.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll be performing a huge overhall of our main VPSSpeed.com site, which will include the launch of 10mbps and 100mbps UNMETERED VPS hosting, and Hybrid VPS hosting! On top of this, we’ll also be rolling out a full range of dedicated server solutions.

Why Unmetered?
Well, you look at our name ‘VPSSpeed‘ and you should expect SPEED. For this reason, we decided that we should really be providing you with the fastest VPS hosting around. With the launch of our new East-Coast location, and unmetered hosting options, we think you’ll love the new speed’s that we can offer!

Why Hybrid?
Hybrid VPS plans are becoming more and more popular as the prices of servers increases. Our Hybrid plans will start at 1.5 GB RAM, and go up to 4GB RAM (8GB Burst) and are on servers where there is a maximum of 8 customers! Meaning you get greater CPU usage, greater bandwidth speeds, and greater RAM & Diskspace allocations!

Whats New
The update will introduce a new website design, that we’re very proud of. In addition to this, the forums and blog will be updated to reflect the new design change.

What about speedCP?
Well, you remember those screenshots we posted a while back? They will be sightly different. speedCP will be completely integrated into the new design. We’re looking at a mid-August release for the initial roll-out.

Final speedCP Features
The ‘final’ features for the initial release are going to be as follows:

  • Start / Stop / Restart VPS
  • Reload OS / Change Template
  • Shell Terminal (NOTE: This is not a ‘back door’ console, just a shell terminal)
  • Change Hostname
  • Change Root password
  • Basic statistics (Diskspace & memory)

Now, you may be wondering, where is feature ‘XYZ’? Put simply, for the first release, we wanted to get it out the door. It would have extended the development time by several months to include any additional functionality. But don’t worry, we will be adding some more features!

So far, here are the features ‘coming soon’:

  • Command area (allows you to execute commands from a list, I.E start SSH, reset iptables, enable TUN, etc)
  • Bandwidth monitoring (currently only staff get to see your bandwidth usage, however we’ll be making a nice user interface for you!)
  • Managed DNS
  • Backup options (We’re looking at allowing FTP backups, and possibly direct-download backups)
  • Port Monitoring

These are just some of the new bits and bobs planned.

If you’ve got any ideas for speedCP, we’d love to hear about them. Just drop us a line, or post in the forums!
